The ADGA Type Project is an initiative of ADGA's volunteer Type Committee and the website was created and is maintained by that committee. The intent is to provide a resource for ADGA members interested in understanding and improving type characteristics in dairy goats. This site is linked to the ADGA web page as a result of a cooperative agreement with ADGA.
Click on one of the breed pictures below to go to that breed table.
Data and Pictures of each individual are linked there. An album index and a breed table index are also available.
The Project has two elements...a spreadsheet of animal information and a linked picture archive (breed tables & albums). This information is provided members of ADGA, who voluntarily submit pictures and baseline information (Simplified Submission Form) about their does and bucks of high achievement for the year of that achievement. We are careful to verify information using ADGA records, but this site is not directly linked to the registry base. As this program develops and expands, we hope it will be useful to you.
In 2005-2006, we received and logged 174 photos and the associated forms from 32 different members. Information was entered into a spreadsheet with a number of parameters. If necessary, photos were scanned, reformatted, & labeled. The quality of the photo received sets the quality of the photo displayed. In a few cases, the image size was kept small in order to provide a view that was not blurred in appearance.
The standards of achievement to qualify were set by the type committee in three categories:
Production (Top Ten in Milk, Butterfat, or Protein)
Show (Permanent Championship Achievement, GCH or CH)
Linear Appraisal (Final Score 89 or Greater or 88 with an Excellent Mammary
Score)
The database for forms & photos submitted for the 2005 program is broken into breed tables. In each breed table, the registration number of an animal is linked to its photo. By clicking on the registration number in the table, you can retrieve a picture of the animal in the year of the listed achievement. For some, there is more than one listing of an animal in order to show the development and acquisition of additional levels of achievement. We highly value submissions for animals over a period of years that provide both type & production information.
A link to the pedigree search on the ADGA Genetics page is shown the bottom of each breed table. You can view the pedigree & performance data of an animal from the table by following that link and the listed instructions.
This is an ongoing process and data are entered as received, verified, and processed. It is the intent of the Type Committee to eventually make this even more useful as a searchable database.
For now, we hope this will provide you with handy references for type improvement.
